The Georgia Aquarium is one of Atlanta’s top attractions. In downtown next to the World of Coca-Cola, Centennial Olympic Park and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the aquarium features special programs, events and animals including sharks, dolphins, beluga whales, sea lions and penguins.
The aquarium is within a 15-minute walk of two train stations: Peachtree Center on the red and gold lines and the GWCC/CNN Station on the blue and green lines. The walk is less hilly from the GWCC/CNN Station. If you’re traveling with kids and need an emergency bathroom en route, public facilities are located in Peachtree Center and the CNN Center.
If any e-scooters are available near either train station, you can rent one to speed up your commute.
Outside the Peachtree Center train station is the Peachtree Center streetcar stop (use the Ellis Street/Peachtree Street East station exit). Pay a separate $1 fee to ride the streetcar to the Centennial Olympic Park stop. From there, walking time is about 6 minutes to the Georgia Aquarium. Download the ATL Streetcar app for iOS or Android to purchase tickets in advance or via the vending machine at the streetcar stop.
The streetcar also travels to the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site for additional sightseeing.
Bus 51 departs from the North Avenue Station and has a stop near the aquarium on Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. The bus also travels on Marietta Street, Howell Mill and next to Georgia Tech, making this route a convenient option for students or residents who live in West Midtown. You can pay cash (exact change only) to ride the bus or use a Breeze Card. It’s free to ride the bus if you are transferring from a train.

Georgia Aquarium to the Cheesecake Factory/Lenox Square
There is not a Cheesecake Factory in downtown Atlanta. The closest location is in Buckhead at Lenox Square Mall. Walk to the Peachtree Center Station from the aquarium and board any northbound train. Georgia Aquarium to Ponce City Market

Georgia Aquarium to the College Football Hall of Fame
The College Football Hall of Fame is just across the park from the Georgia Aquarium. Walking time is about 6 minutes.
Georgia Aquarium to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is also across the park from the aquarium and behind the CNN Center. We recommend walking through the park then entering Andrew Young International Blvd. next to the Omni Hotel and CNN Center to reach the stadium. Walking time is approximately 15 minutes.
Georgia Aquarium to Stone Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park is far away from the aquarium and would require train and bus transfers to reach on transit. As a result, for the easiest commute, request an Uber or Lyft car, especially if you have limited time. Without traffic, the car commute is about 35 minutes.
For a less expensive car ride, you can take a train to the Indian Creek Station at the end of the blue line for a 15-minute Uber or Lyft ride.
Georgia Aquarium to The Varsity
For an easy transit trip to The Varsity, walk the intersection of Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd and Luckie Street just north of the aquarium and board bus 51 for direct service to the famous drive-in restaurant. Commute time is only 10 minutes. The bus stop is on Luckie Street across the street from the Hyatt House hotel. Otherwise, request an Uber or Lyft car for a short ride.
Georgia Aquarium to Zoo Atlanta
We recommend requesting an Uber or Lyft car to get between the zoo and the aquarium. Travel time is about 12 minutes.
For a transit-only commute, walk to the GWCC/CNN Station behind the CNN Center via Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Board the first eastbound train and travel to the King Memorial Station. Walk about 30 minutes from there to the zoo or transfer for free to bus 9 for a short ride. We recommend using Google Maps for walking and transit directions.
